Step 1.) After breakfast survey the beachfront, and pick a location for base camp. Consider variables such as sun angle, temperature, wind direction, bar proximity, and degree of pre-existing sunburn.
Step 2.) Acquire the essentials: the all-important red flag, and a table...
Step 3.) With base camp established, plan short trips into the surrounding area... I would suggest snorkeling, if it's available.

Step 5.) Perform buoyancy experiments, preferably with a friend.
Step 6.) Conduct a survey of the local flora and fauna...
Step 7.) Reposition your base camp to maximize solar observation opportunities.
Step 8.) Say cheese.
Step 9.) Abandon base camp when the snacks and drinks are depleted.
Step 10.) Refuel.
Lastly, a note to would-be-phototographers... Expensive lenses that utilize a lot of glass are not good for tropical environments. It takes about the entire duration of a sunset for the lens temperature to stabilize and allow for fog-free photography. This leads to unpleasant side effects such as weeping, wailing, and gnashing of the teeth. Here is an example of the nearly microscopic iPhone camera triumphing over its much larger and more expensive Canon competition... Sigh.
